What a weekend with the girls in PRAHA! So good to finally meet up with some of the girls this past weekend. Elizabeth and I had our personal tour guides through the city of Prague. We left Wednesday evening, our flight stopped in Frankfurt where we enjoyed delicious soup in the airport then headed to Prague. When we arrived Megan and Sydney heard us outside their window and came running down. We freshened up and they took us out to a couple of their favorite bars. At one bar each table had its personal tap with four nozzles you pour your own beer and it adds up the price as you go then pay at the end- I thought that was a very neat idea. Then we enjoyed the famous fried cheese sandwiches ( yes they are very bad for you, but we’re only in Prague once right?) They were as delicious as the girls built them up to be. The next day we headed out to see the sights of Prague we started at the girls favorite lunch spot called Bohemian Bagel, I enjoyed a nice hummus plate. Then we headed to this wall where during communism there were a few stones that the people could stand on and say whatever they wanted. So what did they do? They wrote their thoughts on the wall connected to the stones so their voices could be heard and remembered. There are decades of messages to the world, lovers and friends on this wall that have been covered over and over again. The wall was very colorful filled with messages of hope, Beatles quotes and love quotes. After that we headed across the Charles bridge which was filled with statues of saints. At the beginning of the bridge there is a big tower where a man plays the trumpet out of every hour. On the other side of the bridge we headed to the Prague Castle and went through some basilica and chapels there. I could see the medieval city coming alive in that area as we walked through it. From this area we could take in beautiful views of the city of Prague. The buildings were very colorful and had a very different style to them. Everywhere we turned there were different characteristics to the buildings. It was nice to get little tid-bits of history as we walked through the city as well. That night we met up with some of the guys at their dorms and hung out at a few bars around there. Apparently foosball is very big in Prague, many of the guys were getting very into it, Ian came back to the table sweating one night from an intense foosball match- yes I laughed too. On Friday we headed to lunch at a typical Czech restaurant that Syd had gone to with a professor of hers, the potato dumplings were delicious. After we roamed the city popping in and out of shops then headed to the Jewish Quarter where there was this cemetery covered by a hall wall that behind it had about 6 layers of people that were killed during the Nazi regime- pretty creepy stuff huh? After we found a little cafĂ© on the river and enjoyed the beautiful day we were blessed with and watched the boats go by. That night the girls took us to their favorite sandwich place then we checked into our hostel and met up with guys while we waited for the girls from Spain to come. Kalle is a Kappa at Colorado State studying in Spain and we were all able to celebrate her 21 birthday with her that weekend. There were about 30 of us on the metro to the club, it was so great to be with everyone and catch up. We had a wonderful time celebrating her birthday and were so lucky we could all spend it with her. The next day we went to one of the many bier gartens in Prague and enjoyed yet another gorgeous day. We had some sausage for lunch and took in the sites of the park. Whether it be a man with a real parrot on his shoulder or cute babies walking by it is always fun people watching. We went to a great Asian restaurant for dinner and met up with everyone to say our goodbyes before we had to leave bright and early the next morning. On our way out of town Sunday we grabbed some sausages from the vendor for one last goodbye to Prague, unfortunately this was the first time I ever got food poisoning- the sausage had been sitting out all night I am guessing and did not sit well- imagine traveling all the way back to Florence like that, yes miserable. So glad that happened to me on the way back and not while I was in Prague. It was a great weekend with everyone and so good to see the life that Megan and Sydney have been living these past couple months.
How do you like the sweater mom?!
The wall.. we wanted to write on it but could not find paint
